Earthrise Camping is the UK's first nationwide circular tent hire service. We take donations of unwanted camping tents that might otherwise end up in landfill, refurbish them and then hire them out for delivery across London and the UK.
Our model allows us to offer tent hire at significantly lower upfront cost compared to traditional tent hire businesses, meaning that we can offer a viable alternative against the cheap "festival tent" market that results in 100,000's of tent abandonments at festivals and campsites every year. The vast majority of these abandoned tents end up directly in landfill.
Our model also reduces the barriers that keep people from enjoying the outdoors. Per-night pricing replaces the £200+ cost of buying gear, our flat £20 deposit is a fraction of the £100-200 the rest of the hire market demands, and our Return It Muddy policy means we never charge cleaning fees for wet & muddy returns. Together, these remove the financial barriers that put camping out of reach for first-time campers and households on tighter budgets.
I’m Rob, founder of Earthrise Camping. We are currently a one man (and dog) operation, run out of Hertfordshire. I have a love of the outdoors and am a keen walker, scaling many mountains across the UK in the process. Whilst I’m not an outdoor industry veteran, I am someone who spotted something broken that had a major effect on the environment and decided to try and fix it. Every tent in the fleet has been personally assessed, cleaned and tested by myself. They also get used on family trips for intensive testing, which includes the typical British weather that tells you quickly whether a tent actually does its job. If it wouldn’t keep me dry, it doesn’t go out to a customer.
