The London Borough of Bromley

About Us

Bromley Council recognises its role in furthering sustainable development, and the contribution its procurement practice can make to this. Procurement decisions have major social, economic and environmental implications, both locally and in a wider context. By considering sustainability factors in procurement decisions the Council can bring about improved social, economic and environmental outcomes, maximise value for money and help deliver joined-up services.

The Carbon Management Team is investigating opportunities to go one step further and explore the Circular Economy and how its principles may be embedded into it’s procurement practises. This will have particular bearing on the Council’s scope three emissions and how the Council may influence its supply chains. The Council also acknowledges, and is keen to benefit from, the potential social and local economic benefits that circular procurement can bring to the borough.

Currently, there is no circular economy policy or formal process to embed its principles into our procurement process. However, a circular procurement toolkit is being trialled which will assist local authority procurement professionals and contract managers in including circular ideas into their contracts. We are looking forward to progressing circular procurement ideas and demonstrate its value with excellent case studies moving forward.
